What Causes Lasik Dry Eye Syndrome

Patients who have undergone Lasik eye surgery frequently complain of having dry eyes. Researches have stated that the reason is because during the surgery, the nerves that produce healthy tears are in the healing process. And during this time the eyes are not able to properly coat the eyes.

And secondly, this is one that no one wants to think about, but the natural aging process is one of the factors that produce dry eyes. As we age our eyes don't produce as much tears as it used to. Dry eyes occurs in both men and women, but more frequent in women who are in or starting the menopause stage. Many over the counter drugs can slow down the production of tears.

Even some of the prescription drugs you take can reduce the tear production, especially those related to diuretics or any drug containing antihistamines. Some of these medications are needed for your health, so you can get eye drops to help alleviate dry eyes. You should ask your doctor to give you a prescription or recommend the best over the counter eye drops for your condition.
